This ROM hack was developed as a university project by the developer and centers on diving beetles (family Dytiscidae). Players take on the role of a young scientist exploring floodplains, interacting with beetle characters while learning about their ecological significance through a short narrative. The game features research-based facts, custom sprites and diagrams, original events, and new maps built with the FireRed tileset. Designed to last about 10 minutes, it is a compact experience with a few known technical limitations and minor visual or dialogue issues due to time constraints.

Story

You are a budding scientist who has been sent to explore the floodplains in pursuit of dytiscidae... known otherwise as the diving beetle!

Meet some quirky characters and even a plot line about why the diving beetle is a significant species.

Limitations/Glitches:

Failing to run from the tadpole or fish boss fight and dying will soft-lock you.
Player reflection is absent in puddles situated in the same block as the tips of trees.
Some dialogue overflows with one NPC and an inconsistent speaking colour for said NPC.
The larvae and dytiscid only have a back and front sprite, respectively, due to time restrictions.
