About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Too Many Types 2 is a sequel to the original Too Many Types, expanding the concept from a novelty reskin into a fully reworked Hoenn experience. The hack radically reimagines Pokémon mechanics by introducing an unprecedented number of elemental types, new battle systems, and extensive rebalancing.

While humorous in tone, Too Many Types 2 is a mechanically dense and feature-rich hack, designed to showcase experimental ideas while remaining playable from start to postgame.

Story Overview

Set two years after the events of Pokémon Emerald, the story begins when the player moves to Lilycove City. Hoenn is still feeling the consequences of the Kyogre and Groudon disaster, and the region has changed in unexpected ways.

As you begin your journey, you encounter new Pokémon types, altered environments, and a brand-new villainous team whose goals tie directly into Hoenn’s unstable balance. While the overall structure follows a traditional Pokémon adventure, the narrative is tailored to support the game’s experimental mechanics.

            Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why doesn’t it work on my emulator?
A: The game was developed and tested exclusively on mGBA, which is the only officially recommended emulator.

Q: Why isn’t it called “2 Many Types”?
A: For clarity and searchability — spoken aloud, “Two Many Types” sounds identical to the first game.

Q: Are there any shiny locks?
A: No shiny locks. However, roaming legendaries can be missed if knocked out.

            Q: Is there a day/night system?
A: Day/night visuals exist, but there are no time-based encounters or mechanics.

Q: Who is this hack for?
A: Players who enjoy experimental mechanics, extreme type variety, and unconventional Pokémon design — less for purists, more for chaos enjoyers.
