Pokémon Niche & Game Guide
Type Niches
Normal Straightforward typing with nothing unusual — but some Normal-type Pokémon have surprisingly high BST, making them difficult to counter.
Fighting Now gains immunity to Electric-type moves and normal effectiveness against Flying-type moves. Its main role is shutting down strong Normal, Dark, and Steel types — making it quite powerful overall.
Flying Lost its super-effectiveness against Fighting types, but Flying moves gained +10 Power and +15 Accuracy. Flying-type Pokémon also receive a Speed BST boost.
Poison Largely unchanged — this typing is considered well-balanced as-is.
Ground Receives a boost to Sp. Def BST, with a smaller boost to Def.
Rock Receives a boost to Def BST, with a smaller boost to Sp. Def.
Bug Historically weak in Gen 3, so a significant rework was done: all defensive weaknesses are removed (with some resistances kept), and Bug-type moves now hit most types for neutral or super effective damage.
Ghost A strong counter to Psychic types. Gains boosted Sp. Atk and Speed, plus full immunity to Ground and Rock moves.
Steel Holds the highest number of resistances of any type.
Fire Serves as a counter to Dark-type moves. Most Fire-type Pokémon are glass cannons — high offense, low bulk.
Water Water moves have a high secondary effect chance, and every Water-type Pokémon has a minimum HP BST of 100.
Grass Excels in healing and status conditions — an exceptionally strong utility type.
Electric All Electric moves receive +20 Power from their base values. Another glass cannon type.
Psychic High damage output, resists most physical types, and Psychic moves bypass Protect entirely.
Ice The Fighting-type weakness has been removed.
Dragon Powerful across the board. Ice weakness removed — Dragons are now only threatened by other Dragon types.
Dark One of the strongest types in the game. Counters both Psychic and Dragon-type moves.
??? (Mystery Type) This type has a meaningful role in the game — but that's for you to discover.
Universal Rule — High-Power Moves
Any move exceeding 100 Power has its accuracy reduced. The trade-off is +10 Power → −5 Accuracy. This applies to all types except Normal.
Mew & Mewtwo
Since this is a FireRed RomHack focused on the Gen 1 Pokédex, the Legendary Pokémon have been significantly strengthened, with many variants placed throughout the game. There's also a secret tied to them that makes hunting them well worth your time — and it won't be harder than finding a Shiny.
Finding Rare Legendaries
Rare wild Mew and Mewtwo can be found inside caves. You can catch as many as you want. These special Legendaries carry the strongest moves in the game, including their exclusive moves. Their exact spawn locations won't be revealed here — explore every cave and search thoroughly.
Tip: Try encountering at least 100 Pokémon in each cave before moving on.
Why Hunt for Them?
These Legendaries with their exclusive moves give you a real shot at defeating the Three Brothers — one of the toughest challenges in the game.
Shadow Mewtwo
Shadow Mewtwo can inherit Mewtwo's exclusive move — but only if you immediately evolve a caught rare Mew into Shadow Mewtwo after catching it. Don't wait.
