About

Pokémon Aquamarine and its eight variants are ROM hacks of FireRed set in Manta, an entirely new region based on South America. The player character mysteriously turns into a Mew and embarks on a journey as a Pokémon trainer to figure out how to turn back into a human.

Variants

Each variant differs only in which Pokémon your rival ends up with and the title screen. Choose your favorite.

  • Opal — Eevee
  • Aquamarine — Vaporeon
  • Topaz — Jolteon
  • Garnet — Flareon
  • Amethyst — Espeon
  • Onyx — Umbreon
  • Quartz — Glaceon
  • Turquoise — Leafeon
  • Zircon — Sylveon

Installation (Windows — Lunar IPS)

  1. Obtain a legitimate copy of Pokémon FireRed.
  2. Obtain a ROM file of FireRed (USA).
  3. Launch Lunar IPS.
  4. Click "Apply IPS Patch."
  5. Select the .ips file of your choice (e.g. Aquamarine.ips).
  6. Select your FireRed .gba ROM file.
  7. Launch the newly patched ROM in a GBA emulator such as VisualBoyAdvance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between all 9 versions? Only the rival's final Pokémon and the title screen change. Pick whichever variant features your favorite.

Where should I go? Use TM29 Psychic — it is given by the Hex Maniac in Tierra Town.

How do I get on the Titanic II? Obtain the tickets from Turo in Solstice City.

Snorlax is blocking the way — what do I do? Check the following: have you defeated the boss in the Crater City Game Corner and obtained the Silph Scope? Have you completed Machu Pichu and escorted Mr. Fuji back to the Volunteer House? Have you received the Pan Flute from Mr. Fuji? All three steps are required.

I found a bug. What should I do? Report it on the Aquamarine thread on Pokécommunity. The developer tries to stay active there.

I beat the Elite Four — what now? Travel to Sol Island and complete Caleb's sidequest. Afterwards, challenge the Elite Four one more time.

Is every Pokémon obtainable? Every Pokémon in the game's Pokédex can be caught somewhere. Note that some Gen 1–3 Pokémon were cut and replaced by others — if a favourite of yours didn't make it in, apologies are extended.

Why do I keep finding shiny Pokémon? There is a pattern to this — or perhaps you're incredibly lucky. This mechanic was inspired by the Cute Charm glitch from Gen 4, and it intentionally influences gameplay.

Known Bugs

  • Starting a double battle with only 1 Pokémon forces either a fainted Pokémon or a Ditto out.
  • Using Flash near a portal causes it to stop spinning.
  • Opening the Town Map in certain areas places the cursor in the wrong location.
  • If the Machu Pichu boss battle causes 1 Pokémon to faint, the battle immediately ends as if the player won.

Notice

This ROM hack is completely free. No profits are to be made from it. If you'd like to support the Pokémon franchise, please buy their latest official game.
