Pokémon Volt Yellow: Anime Version is a FireRed-based ROM hack designed to recreate the anime-style Pokémon journey of Ash and Pikachu within the GBA engine. Inspired heavily by Pokémon Yellow, this project aims to deliver a more faithful anime experience, enhanced with updated visuals and additional features.
You play as Ash, traveling through Kanto with Pikachu always by your side, visually represented in the overworld sprite to emphasize their bond. The game builds on a base created by Boonzeet and expands it with new sprites, updated menus, anime references, and gameplay tweaks.
Unlike large overhaul hacks, this project focuses more on immersion, nostalgia, and recreating the anime feeling, rather than introducing entirely new regions or mechanics. The game is fully playable from start to finish, with only a few minor cosmetic improvements left unfinished.
Story Overview
You take the role of Ash Ketchum, beginning your journey in Kanto with Pikachu as your partner Pokémon. Like the anime, your adventure follows the classic goal of becoming a Pokémon Master while encountering familiar elements such as Jessie and James, iconic starter Pokémon, and anime-style companion interactions.
After completing the main story, additional legendary encounters await on special islands, encouraging post-game exploration.
