About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Untitled Unova Game is a Game Boy Color ROM hack built using the PokeCrystal disassembly, bringing modern Pokémon mechanics into a Gen 2-style engine. It acts as an unofficial sequel to Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, set in the Unova region several years later.

The hack combines Gen 5-focused design with some Gen 6 mechanics, aiming to modernize battle systems and quality-of-life features while keeping the classic GBC aesthetic.

Story Overview

The game takes place in Unova, years after the events of Black 2 and White 2. It features a new storyline rather than retelling the original Unova plot. Players explore a reimagined region with new routes, dungeons, and villain-related areas, including hideout-style locations tied to the story.

The narrative structure includes gym progression, dungeon exploration, and encounters tied to a new regional conflict, expanding on Unova’s post–Team Plasma era.

Key Features

  • Post-B2/W2 Unova Setting: The story occurs years after Black 2 and White 2, offering a new narrative in the same region.
  • 253 Pokémon Available: A large Pokédex including Pokémon from Generations 1–5 and at least one from Generation 6.
  • 255 Moves Implemented: A wide move pool from the first five generations, plus select Gen 6 moves.
  • Fairy Type Added: The Fairy type is implemented, updating type interactions beyond standard Gen 2 mechanics.
  • Physical/Special Split: Moves are categorized individually as physical or special, similar to modern Pokémon games.
  • Reusable TMs: TMs can be used infinitely rather than breaking after one use.
  • Running Shoes from Start: Holding the B button allows running immediately, improving movement speed.
  • Instant Repel Reuse: Repels can be reactivated immediately after expiring for smoother exploration.
  • Dungeon-Style Areas: The demo includes multiple major dungeon zones tied to story progression.
  • Trainer Difficulty Rebalanced: Battles have been adjusted multiple times based on player feedback to provide a more consistent challenge.
  • X-Transceiver Phone Feature: A communication feature inspired by Gen 5 has been implemented.
  • Custom Music and Tilework: The game includes original music compositions and custom map tile designs.
