About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Silver 2.0 is a large-scale restoration and enhancement hack for the Gen 2 GBC games, focused mainly on bringing HeartGold/SoulSilver (HG/SS) Kanto content back into the classic Game Boy Color experience.

The project rebuilds missing Kanto elements, restores beta leftovers, fixes original glitches, and expands post-game content. It was developed directly at binary level, using disassembly references, and released for both English and Italian ROMs.

The result is a “definitive-style” Gen 2 experience that blends original G/S/C gameplay with HG/SS-style world completion.

Story Overview

The main Johto storyline remains faithful to the original Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal adventures. You journey through Johto, defeat Team Rocket, and challenge the Pokémon League.

Where this hack shines is after reaching Kanto. Many locations, trainers, Pokémon encounters, and special events that existed in HeartGold/SoulSilver but not in the original Gen 2 are now restored or recreated. Kanto feels more alive, complete, and closer to its later remake counterpart, giving players a much richer post-game adventure.

Key Features

  • HG/SS Kanto Restored Locations: Numerous Kanto areas inspired by HeartGold/SoulSilver that were absent or simplified in the original Gen 2 games are now restored and explorable.
  • HG/SS Kanto Wild & Legendary Pokémon: Wild encounter tables and legendary Pokémon availability in Kanto are expanded to match HG/SS-style distribution.
  • HG/SS Kanto Trainers Added: Additional trainers based on HG/SS Kanto battles are included, increasing variety and challenge during the Kanto journey.
  • Pewter Museum Fossil Pictures from R/G/B/Y: Classic fossil display graphics from the original Red/Green/Blue/Yellow games are restored inside Pewter Museum.
  • Fully Working Safari Zone: The Safari Zone system now properly supports Rock and Bait mechanics, making captures behave closer to intended classic functionality.
  • HG/SS GB Classic Music Tracks: Game Boy–style arrangements of HG/SS tracks are used in Cerulean City, Fuchsia City, Cinnabar Island, and Routes 24–25.
  • Kanto Starters from Professor Oak: After defeating Red, Professor Oak rewards you with access to the Kanto starter Pokémon.
  • Restored Poké Flute (Beta Leftover): The Poké Flute, originally leftover beta content, is restored with functional use in the game.
  • Pokémon Mansion Ruins: Additional exploration content connected to the Pokémon Mansion ruins is included for lore and world-building.
  • GS Ball Event (Crystal): The GS Ball becomes obtainable after completing Kanto adventures in Pokémon Crystal, restoring a major event feature.
  • Dragon Master Event in Gold/Silver: The Dragon Master event from Crystal is ported into Gold and Silver, adding story and battle content.
  • Minor Glitch Fixes: Fixes include corrected paralyzed catch rate behavior, Kurt’s custom Poké Balls functioning properly, and Dragon Fang item effect corrections.
