About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Evo Yellow is a Game Boy ROM hack that expands Yellow to allow Pikachu evolution, full Pokémon following, and catchable Pokémon from both Kanto and Johto regions (151+ Pokémon). The hack introduces new moves, typings (including Steel, Dark, and Fairy), multi-shiny variants, rideable Pokémon, and extensive gameplay quality-of-life improvements.

It integrates the Red++ base code to allow gender selection, Pokémon genders, and an item/hold system. Players can enjoy a more dynamic and balanced game experience with enhanced trainer AI, diverse move sets, and modifications to TMs, HMs, and evolution mechanics.

Evo Yellow also features new sprites, emotion displays, and Raichu walking after evolution, making it a visually engaging update to the classic Pokémon Yellow.

Story Overview

The game follows the original Pokémon Yellow story but with new twists:

  • Pikachu can evolve based on happiness, affecting sprites and in-game interactions.
  • Eevee or Meowth can be chosen as starter in respective versions, with Eevee capable of evolving into Sylveon through happiness.
  • Pokémon from Kanto and Johto are available, including new evolutions, multi-shiny forms, and balanced leveling.
  • The gameplay emphasizes exploration, catching all Pokémon, and training diverse teams while facing updated and stronger trainer teams, including modified Gym Leaders and bosses.

The narrative remains faithful to Yellow’s progression while adding dynamic events, sprite interactions, and custom evolutions to refresh the experience.
