About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Rocket Science is a complete ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed created by LocksmithArmy. Instead of the usual Pokémon adventure where you play as a Trainer seeking Gym badges and the Pokémon League, this hack lets you experience the world of Kanto from the perspective of Team Rocket — specifically as a Team Rocket Scientist field agent tasked with missions from Giovanni and assignments that intersect with the original FireRed storyline.

The game keeps many core FireRed mechanics and progression elements but overlays a brand-new narrative where the player completes tasks for Team Rocket, engages in unique objectives tied to Red’s activities, and follows a criminal-oriented storyline.

Story Overview

After Team Rocket’s defeat at Silph Co., Giovanni summons all of his scientists and spies to a secret meeting in his gym. With the original Silph Co. operation in ruins, Giovanni assigns his subordinate scientists the task of creating super-powered Pokémon and furthering Team Rocket’s goals.

Playing as a Team Rocket Scientist, your role is that of a “field agent” who must:

  • Recover the fossil that Red did not take from Mt. Moon
  • Clean up after failed theft attempts by other Rocket grunts
  • Infiltrate the S.S. Anne to steal HM CUT
  • Gather Cubone skulls from Pokémon Tower
  • Capture the legendary birds for Team Rocket
  • Uncover how Mewtwo was created and how Team Rocket obtained Mew’s DNA
  • Steal and collect Pokémon for use or sale at the Rocket Game Corner
  • Track and confront RED throughout Kanto
  • Ultimately face him after the Elite Four

The story flips the traditional hero perspective, letting players see Kanto through the eyes of the antagonists and explore familiar locations with a fresh twist.
