About This ROM Hack
Pokémon: Liquid Crystal is a long-running and ambitious Game Boy Advance remake of Pokémon Crystal, developed using the FireRed engine. The project began in 2007 as a solo effort and later evolved into a team-based development due to its popularity and scope.The hack aims to recreate the full Johto and Kanto experience with enhanced visuals, mechanics, and content, while also expanding beyond the original game with new regions, events, and systems. In addition to faithfully rebuilding Crystal’s story, Liquid Crystal introduces original postgame content, including a fully playable Orange Islands region.
Despite being labeled as a Live Beta, the game is large, content-rich, and playable for dozens of hours. Development activity has slowed significantly, and while the project is not officially cancelled, updates have been infrequent in recent years.

Story Overview
Pokémon: Liquid Crystal retells the story of Pokémon Crystal, following the journey of a young trainer across the Johto region.Starting in New Bark Town, you collect Gym Badges, investigate renewed criminal activity, and encounter legendary Pokémon tied to Johto’s lore. The adventure then continues into Kanto, where you challenge its Gym Leaders and face the ultimate test at Mt. Silver.
Beyond Johto and Kanto, the story expands into a brand-new Orange Islands chapter, featuring new characters, conflicts, and secrets that extend the narrative beyond the original Crystal storyline.
