About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Diabound is an ambitious FireRed ROM hack that was designed to deliver a modernized Pokémon experience set in an original region called Yogen. Although the project is currently cancelled, it showcased a strong focus on expanding core Pokémon mechanics while keeping the structure of a traditional journey intact.

The hack was built around the idea of updating FireRed into something closer to later-generation Pokémon games. It included system overhauls like the Physical/Special/Status split, Fairy typing, and expanded abilities and moves. At the same time, it introduced a completely new story where the player moves from Johto to Yogen, a region that initially appears peaceful but slowly reveals hidden tensions and mysteries tied to the professor and your early journey companions.

Despite its cancellation, Diabound is often remembered as one of those “modern FireRed concept” projects that tried to push Gen III engine limits with Gen VI-style mechanics.

Story Overview

You and your mother have recently moved from Johto to the Yogen Region, a land known for centuries of peace and prosperity. Despite its calm reputation, something about Yogen feels unsettling—an unseen change seems imminent.

You settle in the quiet town of Fernspruce, where you meet two other young boys and a local Pokémon Professor. The three of you quickly become friends. One day, the Professor unexpectedly offers each of you a rare Pokémon, a gift that seems generous—but suspicious.

Why were you chosen?
Is the Professor hiding something?
Is Yogen truly as peaceful as it appears?

As you explore the region, uncover mysteries, and challenge Gyms, you slowly begin to realize that something much larger is unfolding behind the scenes.
