About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Conversion Emerald is a heavy rebalance ROM hack focused on making every Pokémon competitively viable in a single-player context. Instead of adding a new story or region, this hack completely reworks types, base stats, evolutions, items, breeding, encounters, and quality-of-life systems while keeping Emerald’s structure intact.
The goal is to eliminate “bad Pokémon,” reduce grind and frustration, and promote creative team-building, all while remaining faithful to Pokémon’s core mechanics.
Story Overview
Design Philosophy
- No useless Pokémon: Every species should be usable.
- Accessibility over grind: Strong Pokémon and key items are easier to obtain.
- Competitive logic in single-player: Balance inspired by OU-level play.
- Consistency and sanity: Moves, HMs, breeding, and evolution methods make intuitive sense.
- Story and progression follow Pokémon Emerald.
- Encounters, stats, typings, and learnsets are dramatically reworked.
- The game encourages frequent team changes, experimentation, and synergy.
- Difficulty comes from stronger, better-designed Pokémon, not unfair mechanics.
Key Features
- Rebalanced Pokémon Stats: Nearly all Pokémon have increased or redistributed base stats to better reflect their intended strengths and competitive roles.
- Type Changes & New Typings: Redundant or ill-fitting Pokémon have been retyped; Fairy-type is fully implemented.
- Full Pokédex Availability: All 386 Pokémon are planned to be catchable, with area diversity prioritized (goal: ~6 Pokémon per area).
- Type Rebalancing: Ice resists Normal and Flying; Fairy is weak to Bug, creating new strategic dynamics.
- Quality of Life Improvements: Reusable TMs, overwriteable HMs, shorter dialogue, clearer descriptions, and indoor running.
- HM Sanity System: Pokémon can use HMs logically (e.g., winged Pokémon can Fly, clawed Pokémon can Cut).
- Improved Breeding: Any two Pokémon can breed; egg hatch times are halved.
- Shiny Rate Increased: Shiny chance is 0.5% (1 in 200), with many new shiny palettes.
- Evolution Accessibility: Trade and special evolutions can also occur via friendship.
- Catch Rate Boost: All Pokémon have a flat +10% catch rate for reduced frustration.
- Surfing & Fishing Improvements: Lower surf encounter rates; fishing yields more variety and unique Pokémon per rod tier.
- Day/Night System Expanded: Includes caves with natural illumination for atmosphere and evolution mechanics.
- System Time Control: The GameCube in your house allows manual time changes.
- Egg Move Improvements: Many Pokémon gain access to crucial competitive moves like Will-O-Wisp, Baton Pass, and Dragon Dance.
- Move & Mechanic Tweaks: Critical hit damage reduced (2× → 1.5×), better move descriptions, and updated mechanics throughout.
Known Bugs & Issues
- Some Pokédex entries are missing (planned for release version).
- Several late-game areas (Safari Zone, Victory Road, Sea Caves, old legendaries) are unfinished.
- Intro glitch where Brandon rides a MissingNo-like sprite.
- Route 124 encounter bug causing excessive Pupitar spawns.
- Some move descriptions have line-break issues.
- Feature explanations are incomplete and will be added via NPCs/signs in the final version.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this a story hack or a balance hack?A: This is a pure balance and mechanics overhaul, not a story-focused hack.
Q: Does it add new Pokémon generations?
A: No. It rebalances all 386 Gen 1–3 Pokémon, rather than adding newer generations.
Q: Are Pokémon types changed permanently?
A: Yes. Many Pokémon have new typings to better suit their design and role.
Q: Is the Fairy-type fully functional?
A: Yes. Fairy-type is implemented with custom strengths and weaknesses.
Q: Is the game harder than Emerald?
A: Yes, but in a fair and strategic way—difficulty comes from smarter balance, not grinding or gimmicks.
Q: Can I complete the Pokédex in this version?
A: Not fully yet. About 75% is currently implemented, with full completion planned.
Q: Do I need trade evolutions?
A: No. Trade evolutions can also occur through friendship.
Q: Is this hack complete?
A: No. It is currently in Beta v176, with several areas still unfinished.
