About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Classified is the first public ROM hack by developer Submachine39, created after about a year of ROM hacking experience. While the project was ultimately cancelled, a playable version exists that showcases the developer’s ambitions, technical experimentation, and design philosophy.

The hack focuses on difficulty, realism-inspired mechanics, and quality-of-life improvements, drawing inspiration from projects like Pokémon Reborn. Even in its unfinished state, Pokémon Classified stands out due to its level cap system, advanced AI usage, and extensive mechanical tweaks uncommon in early projects.

Story Overview

A mysterious new island suddenly appears in the middle of the ocean. No one knows how or when it formed, but people quickly begin to settle there in search of opportunity. You and your family are among those who migrate to this new land, now known as the Secrien Region.

Together with your brother, you receive your first Pokémon and begin your journey across Secrien. As you explore the region, meet new characters, and challenge Gyms, it becomes increasingly clear that not everything is as it seems. Beneath the surface of this hopeful new land lies a deeper mystery waiting to be uncovered.
