Pokémon Hyper Emerald v5.7 – Lost Artifacts is one of those hacks where the scope is almost hard to wrap your head around.
It takes Emerald and layers generations 1 through 8 on top of it — Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Gigantamax, mechanics and Pokémon from across the entire series, all crammed into a single GBA game. Hoenn is still the foundation, but the world expands well beyond it, pulling in areas like Sinnoh and entirely custom zones alongside new story content and side content that goes far past what the original offered.
The ambition is genuinely impressive. There's nothing subtle about what this hack is trying to do, and for the most part it pulls it off.
That said, it's worth going in with realistic expectations. The sheer size of it means some parts feel rougher than others, and the ongoing translation work leaves certain sections feeling inconsistent or incomplete. It's not a polished, tightly designed experience — it's more like an enormous sandbox that keeps giving you more to find, for better or worse.
