About This ROM Hack

Fire Red Reignited & Leaf Green Regrown is a GBA decompilation ROM hack designed to fix numerous long-standing issues with the original FireRed/LeafGreen games. It modernizes the gameplay experience, adds postgame content, enhances Kanto and Sevii Island maps, and introduces cross-generation Pokémon while retaining the original region and mechanics.

This hack also implements a variety of quality-of-life improvements, from reusable Repels and bag sorting to running indoors, revamped trainers, and a flexible difficulty system. Players can now capture a much larger roster of Pokémon, including cross-gen Kantonian natives and Hoenn Pokémon, while exploring updated maps and postgame content.

Version 1.5 serves as a major reintroduction update. It focuses primarily on postgame expansion and the long-requested ability to catch every Hoenn Pokémon, while refining many existing systems such as FameChecker rewards, map improvements, trainer balance, item distribution, and overall quality-of-life.

Story Overview

The storyline remains faithful to the original Kanto adventure: the player becomes a Pokémon Trainer, collecting Pokémon, battling Gym Leaders, and aiming to become the Champion.

The postgame expands this experience by introducing Hoenn Pokémon, new trainers, and special events. A “suspicious rock” on Route 10 triggers the appearance of Hoenn Pokémon throughout Kanto. Trainers from the Mirage present challenges and rewards, while expanded Sevii Islands feature new caves, postgame bosses, and exploration opportunities. The FameChecker system rewards the player for interactions with Gym Leaders and notable characters, influencing rematches and special rewards.

Key Features

  • Trade Evolution Rework: Trade Pokémon now evolve via level-up or their evolution item, removing link trade requirements.
  • Expanded Regional Pokédex: All Kanto and Johto Pokémon are obtainable in both versions, strengthening type diversity and regional connection.
  • Rebalanced Main Dex Structure: The main game Pokédex contains 181 Pokémon, consisting of 151 originals and 30 additional species, where two-thirds are evolutions or pre-evolutions and one-third are Johto additions.
  • Map Overhaul: Areas such as Cinnabar Island and Mt. Moon have been redesigned to feel less empty and more visually engaging.
  • New Area Expansions: Mt. Moon Square and a new Rock Tunnel floor have been added, both accessible via Rock Smash.

  • Type System Adjustment: Dark and Ghost types have been swapped to improve balance and identity.

  • Gift Pokémon Scaling: Gift Pokémon are received at higher, more relevant levels.
  • Legacy Feature Integration: Includes features inspired by Emerald and Yellow Legacy such as improved fossil acquisition, fishing rod placement, and Oak battles.

  • Gym Leader Rematches: Leaders can be challenged again for tougher battles.
