About This ROM Hack
Pokémon ObsidianBlack Version is part of a dual-release project alongside PewterWhite, designed as a more ambitious take on a traditional Pokémon FireRed-style adventure.
At its core, this hack reimagines the experience with a focus on Gen IV and Gen V Pokémon integration, updated mechanics, and a more modernized gameplay structure while still keeping the classic badge-based progression.
One of its defining traits is that it isn’t just a simple difficulty or content tweak—it’s meant to feel like a full paired-version Pokémon game, similar in structure to official releases.
The developer aimed to build a more interactive and less “classic Ruby/Sapphire strict” experience, introducing systems like reusable TMs, physical/special split, and expanded party variety early on.
Even though the hack is still in alpha stages, it already establishes the foundation of a much larger planned experience involving the Ocrat region and expanded postgame content.
Story Overview
The story follows a young trainer who has just received their Pokémon license in the Bosha Region, a new area filled with mystery, rival trainers, and Team Rocket activity.
Your journey begins like a traditional Pokémon adventure—starting small, meeting your rivals, and traveling through routes to earn gym badges. However, the region is structured to eventually expand into a larger world known as the Ocrat Region, which is planned for later versions.
Throughout the journey, the player encounters multiple rivals and ongoing conflict involving Team Rocket, while uncovering hints that the region holds deeper connections and secrets tied to future expansions.
The story is intentionally designed to grow over updates, meaning early versions focus more on establishing the world rather than delivering a fully completed narrative.
