MrDollSteak’s Decap and Attack Rombase is a development-focused FireRed rombase, not a traditional gameplay hack. It is designed to help new and experienced ROM hackers skip large amounts of tedious low-level work, such as table expansion, move insertion, and engine edits.
The rombase integrates modern Pokémon mechanics—mainly from Generations IV to VI—while keeping all original FireRed scripts intact. This means the game remains fully playable as vanilla FireRed, but with modernized systems and extensive under-the-hood upgrades already implemented.
A defining characteristic of this rombase is its complete decapitalisation, giving the entire game text a Gen 5–style aesthetic.
Story Overview
This rombase does not modify FireRed’s original story. All scripts, events, and progression remain untouched. Any story changes are intended to be implemented later by hack creators using this base as a foundation.

- Complete Decapitalisation: Almost all in-game text has been converted to lowercase, including menus and system prompts, matching the style of later-generation Pokémon games.
- Physical / Special / Status Split: Moves are categorized independently of type, bringing post-Gen 4 battle mechanics to FireRed.
- PSS Move Icons: Physical, Special, and Status icons are displayed in battle and move descriptions for clarity.
- Expanded Move Roster: 131 new Generation 4 and 5 moves are fully implemented, with space reserved for 26 custom moves.
- Updated Move Data: Base power, accuracy, and effects of existing moves are updated to reflect modern games.
- Modern Movesets: All 386 Pokémon have updated level-up learnsets closely matching BW2 and XY.
- Sound Moves Bypass Substitute: Sound-based moves hit through Substitute, consistent with Gen 6 behavior.
- New Abilities: Approximately 60 new abilities from Generations IV–VI are included and functional.
- New Held Items: Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, Assault Vest, and Eviolite are implemented.
