About This ROM Hack

Pokémon FireRed 20XX is a strategic hack where every Pokémon is level 100, and battle outcomes are determined entirely by team building and tactics. The game removes the need to grind, EVs are nonexistent, and Pokémon are extremely easy to catch, allowing players to experiment with multiple teams. Standard evolution is replaced by Moon Stone evolution (with exceptions for Eeveelutions), and HMs are nerfed to reduce reliance. The hack is designed to replicate the challenge of a “zero EXP run” while providing a deep team-building meta.

Story Overview

The story remains largely faithful to FireRed but emphasizes strategy and team management rather than traditional progression. Gym Leaders and Champion battles are designed to test how well you can craft teams that exploit type advantages, movesets, and situational tactics. With fully evolved wild Pokémon and strategic resource limitations like single-use TMs and only three Moon Stones, players are encouraged to carefully plan their teams from the start.

Key Features

  • Level 100 Pokémon: Every Pokémon in the game starts at level 100, eliminating the need for grinding.
  • No Revives in Battle: Revives cannot be used during battles, adding strategic depth.
  • No EVs: EVs have been removed, but Badge boosts remain in effect.
  • Fully Evolved Wild Pokémon: Wild Pokémon appear at evolved stages with weaker or situational movesets.
  • Master Balls Purchasable: Master Balls can be bought for 10 Poké Bucks at any mart.
  • Starter Moveset: Your fully evolved starter has a balanced moveset from the beginning.
  • Moon Stone Evolution: Standard evolution is replaced; most Pokémon evolve using Moon Stones, with only three available in-game.
  • One-Time TM Use: All TMs are obtainable only once, requiring careful planning.
  • Nerfed HMs: HMs have reduced power to limit overreliance.
  • Modified Water Moves: Surf is weakened; Water types learn a new strong Water move (Muddy Water).
  • Move Relearner: Trades a situationally useful move for a Big Mushroom (purchaseable for 20,000 Poké Bucks).
  • Gym Order Adjusted: Brock is no longer the first required Gym Leader; Misty is first.
  • Extremely Challenging Gym Leaders: Gym Leaders and Champions require specific team strategies.
  • Sevii Islands Changes: The Sevii Islands feature Pokémon from multiple regions.
  • Modified In-Game Trades: Some trades have been altered to fit team-building strategy.
  • Strategic Team-Building Focus: Battles are designed to reward careful planning over EXP grinding.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • Starters in Oak’s Lab display first-stage sprites despite being fully evolved.
  • Ghost Marowak is not level 100 but is non-catchable, so it has no impact.
  • Minor spelling mistakes in screenshots have been fixed in-game.
