About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Prestigious Platinum is a complete overhaul of Pokémon Platinum created by the developer behind Pokémon Expert Emerald. Inspired by the philosophy of challenging yet fair gameplay, the hack focuses on making every major battle more demanding while also allowing players to obtain all 493 Pokémon without requiring trading or external events.
Rather than changing the story, the hack enhances the overall gameplay experience through tougher trainers, rebalanced Pokémon, revised evolutions, ability changes, stat adjustments, and expanded Pokémon availability. The developer also includes extensive documentation explaining every important modification, making it easier for players to understand the numerous gameplay changes.
Although the creator mentions having limited experience with Nintendo DS hacking compared to previous projects, Prestigious Platinum was completed after extensive work and serves as the final release of the project.
Key Features
- Complete National Pokédex: All 493 Pokémon can be obtained within a single playthrough through wild encounters or revised evolution methods without requiring trades or external events.
- Increased Difficulty: Every Gym Leader, Elite Four member, important trainer, regular trainer, and trainer rematch has been redesigned with stronger and more competitive teams to create a consistently challenging experience.
- Trainer Rematches: Important NPCs and rematch battles have also been reworked, ensuring the increased difficulty continues throughout the game.
- Reworked Evolutions: Many Pokémon that originally evolved through trading, happiness, held items, or other restrictive methods have been modified to evolve more naturally during gameplay. A complete list is provided in the included documentation.
- Ability Changes: More than 70 Pokémon receive updated primary or secondary abilities. Some abilities are chosen to better fit each Pokémon's design, while others borrow Hidden Abilities introduced in later generations.
- Stat Improvements: Over 70 Pokémon have received stat increases to improve their usefulness, especially Pokémon commonly used by Gym Leaders, Elite Four members, and other important trainers.
- Type Changes: Several Pokémon receive updated typings to improve balance and usability. For example, Lopunny becomes Normal/Fighting.
- Legendary Pokémon Availability: All 34 Legendary Pokémon are obtainable in-game. They are placed throughout later areas of Sinnoh as rare encounters instead of requiring special event distributions.
- Comprehensive Documentation: Multiple documents are included with the download covering Pokémon locations, evolution changes, legendary locations, general gameplay changes, and other important information.
- Faithful Platinum Experience: While gameplay receives significant improvements, the original adventure, progression, and overall feel of Pokémon Platinum remain intact.
Known Bugs & Issues
- A wild Pokémon encounter glitch is known to occur on the lower section of Route 204, and similar issues may exist in a few other locations.
- The included Wild Pokémon Locations document incorrectly lists Old Rod in some places where it should actually read Good Rod.
- No other major gameplay issues were mentioned for the final release.
