About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Platinum Pro is a hardcore difficulty hack of Pokémon Platinum built upon Pokémon Platinum Plus by Blue, with permission from the original creator. The goal of the project is not to rewrite the Sinnoh adventure, but to create one of the toughest Pokémon Platinum experiences possible while maintaining logical trainer progression and avoiding unnecessary level grinding.

Unlike many difficulty hacks that rely on unfair mechanics, Platinum Pro gives nearly every trainer larger teams, stronger AI, optimized EV spreads, held items, and sensible movesets based on what Pokémon can legally learn in Generation IV. Trainers do not rely on impossible attacks or unrealistic movesets, making every battle feel challenging while remaining authentic.

Another major design philosophy is maintaining a consistent level curve, allowing players to progress through the game without repeatedly grinding for experience. In addition to its trainer overhaul, the hack inherits Pokémon Platinum Plus's ability to obtain all 493 Pokémon during normal gameplay while introducing several exclusive gameplay tweaks of its own.

Key Features

  • Hardcore Difficulty: Battles have been redesigned to provide a consistently difficult experience from beginning to end.
  • Complete National Pokédex: All 493 Pokémon can be obtained during normal gameplay, inheriting the Pokémon availability from Pokémon Platinum Plus.
  • Minimal Level Grinding: The level curve has been carefully balanced so players can progress naturally without excessive grinding.
  • Competitive Trainer Battles: Trainer Pokémon use logical Generation IV movesets based on their current levels instead of unrealistic attacks.
  • Expanded Trainer Teams: Nearly every trainer uses at least two Pokémon, with only a few rare exceptions.
  • Champion-Level AI: Every trainer uses the highest AI setting available (AI value 7), resulting in much smarter battle decisions.
  • Maximum EV Training: Every opposing trainer Pokémon has fully optimized EVs, making battles significantly more challenging.
  • Trainer Healing Items: Every trainer carries at least one Full Restore, while Gym Leaders receive four.
  • Gym Leader Overhaul: Every Gym Leader now uses a full team of six Pokémon with held items and balanced level progression.
  • Enhanced Team Galactic Battles: Team Galactic members have larger and more competitive teams.
  • Competitive Elite Four: The Elite Four and Champion feature optimized movesets and held items designed for serious battles.
  • Second Elite Four Challenge: Rematch teams reach Level 100, creating an even greater end-game challenge.
  • Additional Starter Locations: All starter Pokémon can be found in the wild, primarily around Lake Verity and Route 202.
  • Wild Beldum: Beldum has been added to Wayward Cave in addition to its other available location.
  • Regigigas Buff: Regigigas no longer has the Slow Start ability.
  • Improved Shiny Rate: Version 2 increases the shiny encounter rate to approximately 1 in 257, making shiny hunting far more accessible.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • The developer states that the game is complete and that personal testing found no known gameplay bugs.
  • Version 2 specifically fixes trainer freezing issues that existed in earlier releases.
  • One documented limitation inherited from the base project is that the Item Changes documentation included with Pokémon Platinum Plus should not be used, as those modifications can cause crashes. The developer instead recommends using Action Replay codes if those items are needed.
