About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Hoenn White 2 is a story-focused ROM hack of Pokémon White 2 that serves as a sequel to the events of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald rather than a remake. Instead of revisiting Hoenn itself, the adventure takes place in Unova, where familiar Hoenn characters and organizations become part of an entirely new storyline.
The hack introduces Hoenn starters, an expanded Hoenn Pokédex, remixed Hoenn music, stronger trainers, edited Pokémon stats and movepools, and redesigned sprites while keeping the foundation of Pokémon White 2 intact. Many gameplay adjustments are inspired by Drayano's Blaze Black 2 and Volt White 2, resulting in a more challenging experience than the original game.
Although still in Beta 2.2, the story is marked as complete, while other areas such as Pokémon edits and music remain a work in progress. At the time of this release, the game can be played up to Skyla's Gym, and players should not board the airplane to Reversal Mountain, as development ends before that point.
Story Overview
Five years after the events of the Hoenn Region and two years after the legendary battle between N and the Hero of Unova, a new Trainer from Aspertia City begins their Pokémon journey.
The adventure starts when the protagonist's mother tells them that May has arrived to deliver their first Pokémon. Together with their childhood friend, the player searches for May, who offers a choice between Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip as starter Pokémon. From there, the journey across Unova begins.
During the years between Hoenn and the present day, many familiar faces have taken on new roles. Brendan has traveled to Unova and now serves as the Gym Leader of Aspertia City, while May works as Professor Juniper's assistant. Meanwhile, the long-standing conflict between Team Aqua and Team Magma continues.
After their defeat in Hoenn, Team Aqua refuses to abandon its dream of flooding the world and forms an alliance with Ghetsis and Colress to pursue that goal within Unova. In response, Team Magma follows them to prevent another disaster, having learned from the mistakes they made in Hoenn.
As the player travels across Unova, they become caught in the conflict between these organizations while working toward becoming Champion and preventing Team Aqua's latest plan from succeeding.
