About This ROM Hack

Pokémon World Tour is an ambitious FireRed ROM hack concept designed to connect multiple Pokémon regions into one continuous world-scale adventure. Unlike standard Pokémon hacks that focus on a single region, this project attempts to combine Hoenn, Johto, Orange Islands, Kanto, and Sinnoh into one interconnected storyline experience.

The hack is structured like a travel-based anime adaptation, heavily inspired by Pokémon movie locations and special episodes. It introduces cross-region travel via ferries, tunnels, and scripted events that connect different parts of the Pokémon world.

At its core, Pokémon World Tour is not just a gameplay overhaul—it is a large narrative reconstruction of the Pokémon universe timeline, placing legendary events and character encounters in a shared continuity.

However, the project is clearly in an early development stage, with the creator openly requesting help for scripting, mapping, trainer editing, and testing.

Story Overview

You begin in Hoenn as a young trainer who has long dreamed of meeting a distant penpal from another region. Now finally old enough to own a Pokémon, you start your journey, which quickly turns into a globe-spanning adventure.

After Hoenn, you travel by ferry to Johto, become involved in local crises, and witness legendary myths resurfacing. A fire at Brass Tower, suspicious gym leader encounters, and cultural festivals lead you toward the Orange Islands, where the plot escalates dramatically.

There, you participate in the Shamouti Island Legend Festival, encounter the Legendary Birds, and meet Lugia. On New Island, Team Rocket is conducting dangerous experiments involving Mew and Mewtwo, leading to one of the hack’s major story arcs. Mewtwo later directs you toward Kanto’s Cerulean Cave.

Team Rocket’s ambitions grow, culminating in a tunnel project reaching toward Sinnoh. Upon entering Sinnoh, the penpal storyline reaches its emotional payoff, tying into a backstory concept connected to the Pokémon anime timeline.

The story treats legendary Pokémon as myths rediscovered, positioning the player as a catalyst for their return.

Key Features

  • Multi-Region Adventure: The game spans Hoenn, Johto, Orange Islands, Kanto, and potentially Sinnoh, creating a world-scale journey rather than a single-region campaign.
  • Anime-Inspired Narrative: Story elements are heavily inspired by Pokémon movies and anime lore, including Shamouti Island, Alto Mare, and New Island events.
  • Legendary Story Integration: Legendary Pokémon such as Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Lugia, Latios, Latias, Mew, and Mewtwo are tied directly to story arcs rather than simple static encounters.
  • Pre-Anime Timeline Setting: The story takes place before the anime era, portraying legendary Pokémon as long-lost myths and showing early Team Rocket activity.
  • Penpal Storyline Mechanic: The protagonist’s journey is motivated by a cross-region penpal connection that becomes central to the late-game narrative.
  • Region-Hopping Progression: Travel between regions occurs via ferries and story events, blending gym progression with narrative-driven travel.
  • Shamouti Island Festival Event: Players participate in the Legend Festival, collect spheres, and trigger the Legendary Bird and Lugia storyline.
  • Alto Mare Legendary Event: A dedicated Latios and Latias storyline involving Team Rocket and the Soul Dew.
  • New Island Plot Arc: A major narrative sequence where Team Rocket captures Mew and Mewtwo, leading to a confrontation and Mewtwo’s escape.
  • Early Team Rocket Portrayal: Team Rocket is shown in its formative phase, initially unaware of the true existence of legendary Pokémon.
  • Large-Scale World Map Design: The overworld map connecting multiple regions is described as extremely large and still in development.
  • Cinematic Gym Encounters: Several gym leaders are encountered in story-driven situations outside their gyms before formal battles.
  • Movie-Style Legendary Encounters: Legendary Pokémon interactions are structured like cinematic set pieces rather than standard battles.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • Demo only covers the Hoenn section up to the first Gym.
  • Many regions, events, and maps are still incomplete.

Q: Is this a finished game?
A: No, the available release is an early demo covering Hoenn up to the first Gym. Most regions and major story arcs are still in development.

A: Partially, but the journey is structured around travel between regions and story events, with gyms sometimes tied into narrative situations rather than standard town-to-town flow.

Q: Are legendary Pokémon central to the story?
A: Yes, multiple legendary Pokémon are core to the plot and appear through dedicated story events inspired by films and specials.
