About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Twist is an early alpha-stage FireRed ROM hack that completely reshapes the traditional Pokémon world into something more narrative-heavy and morally darker. The setting is built around a world where human exploitation of nature has pushed Pokémon to the brink of extinction, with only a few remaining habitats preserving what’s left of them.
The main surviving region, known as the BANA region, becomes the central focus of the story. Here, Pokémon are split between two extremes: the friendlier species are preserved in safer environments, while the more dangerous Pokémon are isolated in the Three Islands located to the south, where they are studied under controlled conditions.
You step into the story after receiving your coaching diploma alongside your best friend and a character named Eve. You are recruited by Professor Oak, who assigns you an unusual mission: to find and evaluate Pokémon suitable for the restricted Three Islands. However, this assignment quickly turns into something much deeper, as the mystery surrounding the islands begins to unfold.
The hack already introduces several gameplay enhancements and modern Pokémon elements, even in its alpha state, including expanded Pokémon availability and updated mechanics.
Story Overview
The world has changed drastically due to continuous exploitation of natural resources, pushing Pokémon toward near extinction. Only a few remain, mostly concentrated in the BANA region, which acts as the last safe zone.
In this region, society has taken a strict approach: friendly Pokémon are protected, while dangerous species are relocated to the Three Islands in the south, where they are monitored and studied.
After years of preparation, you, your best friend, and Eve finally receive your coaching diplomas. Soon after, you are recruited by Professor Oak, who gives you your first real assignment: travel across the region and identify Pokémon that could potentially survive or be used in the harsh environment of the Three Islands.
As your journey begins, you are also tasked with collecting the region’s medals, but the deeper truth of the Three Islands slowly starts to surface. Something unknown is hidden there, and your mission may be part of a much larger experiment than it first appears.
