About This ROM Hack
Poke’s Bizarre Adventure is a short, experimental Pokémon GBA ROM hack designed as a hardcore mini challenge run rather than a traditional Pokémon journey. It intentionally strips away many of the series’ safety nets—such as Pokémon Centers, PC boxes, and blackout recovery—to create a tense, resource-management–focused experience.
The hack leans heavily into absurd humor, unconventional design choices, and deliberate restriction, making it ideal for players who enjoy challenge hacks, Nuzlocke-style tension, or something wildly different from standard Pokémon gameplay.
Story Overview
Like any great story, it begins with a fever dream.
A mysterious voice urges you to “get a Pikachu”—but not just any Pikachu. The best Pikachu around. Rumors point to Leaf, a trainer who recently defeated the Pokémon League using her Pikachu. If you can reach her, you might be able to obtain it.
Armed with only a single Pokémon and no margin for error, you set off across a slightly altered Kanto, starting in Celadon City, while shadowy figures begin to take an interest in your journey—and your Pokémon.
Your decisions along the way will determine how the adventure ends.
Key Features
- Challenge-Run Design: Blacking out at any point results in an immediate game over.
- No Pokémon Centers or PC Boxes: Healing is limited strictly to items you purchase or find.
- Single Starter Pokémon: You begin with only one Pokémon—Furret.
- Overworld Pikachu Sprite: A fully visible Pikachu overworld sprite adds flair and humor.
- No Pokémon Catching: All Pokémon are obtained as gifts; Poké Balls are intentionally unavailable.
- Multiple Endings: Two different endings depending on your actions during the game.
- Modified Kanto Region: The adventure starts in Celadon City and explores a compact, altered version of Kanto.
- Limited Trainer Battles: Not all trainers are meant to be fought; resource management is key.
- Dragon Tamer Class: Stronger-than-average trainers that reward more money but pose serious danger.
- Economy-Based Survival: Revives are expensive, PP must be conserved, and money management is crucial.
- Item Hunting: Some wild Pokémon can rarely hold valuable items that can be stolen using Thief or Covet.
