About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Violet is an ambitious FireRed-based ROM hack focused on modern Pokémon mechanics, deeper character storytelling, and a darker regional narrative. It blends features from Generations 4–6 with custom systems such as manual EV distribution, expanded Pokédex tools, and new forms.

Unlike enhancement hacks that just update Pokémon rosters, this project aims to combine mechanical depth, story complexity, and player customization, all wrapped in a region dealing with corruption, power struggles, and looming extraterrestrial danger.

Story Overview

The game takes place in the region of Theto, where a meteorite crash once nearly brought catastrophe. Though disaster was avoided, the world knows the cosmic threat could return.

Years later, you begin as a young trainer chasing dreams of fame and glory. What starts as a classic journey soon turns darker: Theto is plagued by corruption, fear, and a powerful criminal organization known as Team Violet. As unrest spreads, you uncover conspiracies, power abuse, and a society under pressure.

The story mixes the traditional Gym/League journey with political tension and moral gray areas, building toward a conflict that could determine whether the region finds peace — or falls into chaos.

Key Features

  • Physical/Special Split System: Modern Battle Mechanics: Attacks follow the Generation 4+ system, where moves are categorized individually as physical or special rather than by type.
  • Reusable TMs: No One-Time Use Restrictions: Technical Machines can be used repeatedly, encouraging flexible team-building and experimentation.
  • Mega Evolution / Imperial Forms: Advanced Transformation Mechanics: Certain Pokémon can undergo powerful battle transformations, adding strategic depth and late-game power spikes.
  • Generation 4–6 Content Integration: Expanded Pokédex & Mechanics: Includes Pokémon, abilities, items, and moves from later generations, modernizing the FireRed engine.
  • Running Shoes from the Start: Faster Early Gameplay: Players can run immediately and even inside buildings, improving pacing and exploration flow.
  • Link Cable Trade Replacement: Easier Evolution Access: Trade evolutions are handled through an in-game “link cable” mechanic, removing external trading requirements.
  • Hidden Skills System: Additional Ability Layer: Pokémon may have access to special hidden abilities, increasing build variety.
  • Increased Shiny Rate: Easier Shiny Hunting: The odds of encountering shiny Pokémon are higher than in official games.
  • New Moves Added: Expanded Move Pool: Pokémon can learn additional attacks not present in standard FireRed, supporting modern strategies.
  • Manual EV Distribution System: Player-Controlled Stat Growth: Effort Values can be assigned manually in increments of 4, giving players direct control over stat optimization.
  • Miracle Swap Feature: Global-Style Pokémon Exchange: A system that mimics surprise trading, allowing Pokémon swaps with unknown trainers.
  • Poké Radar System: Rare Pokémon Tracking: Players can use a radar tool to find rare species in tall grass, rewarding exploration and chaining.
  • Enhanced Pokédex Tools: Sorting & Habitat Info: The Pokédex includes advanced sorting options and clearer habitat displays.
  • Multi-Strand Storyline: Character-Driven Narrative: The plot focuses on personal development, moral conflicts, and multiple story threads.
  • Selectable Difficulty Levels: Adjustable Challenge: Players can choose different difficulty settings to tailor the gameplay experience.
  • Custom-Composed Music: Original Soundtrack Elements: Much of the music is self-composed, giving the game a distinct audio identity.
