About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Ultra FireSun is designed as an improvement and expansion hack rather than a story rewrite. It keeps the FireRed foundation but dramatically increases the amount of available Pokémon, moves, and battle mechanics.

The hack includes Pokémon from Generations 1 through 7, introduces the Fairy type, adds Mega Evolution, and implements modern quality-of-life systems such as EV/IV viewers and experience gain upon catching Pokémon. It also adds a large number of Fakemon, bringing the total roster to over 1,400 Pokémon.

The goal is simple: deliver a modern Pokémon-style experience inside the GBA engine without losing the feel of classic FireRed.

Story Overview

The game begins in a familiar Kanto setting but expands to include regions inspired by Alola. Players will travel across multiple regions, encountering both classic Pokémon and newer species, including Legendary and Fakemon. Trainers, Gym Leaders, and rival encounters are redesigned to provide a challenging experience. Using modern mechanics like Mega Evolution and the PSS system, players can fully experience the strategic depth of later Pokémon games on a GBA platform.

Key Features

  • Over 1,400 Pokémon: Includes Pokémon from Generations 1–7 plus a large selection of Fakemon, creating one of the biggest rosters in a GBA ROM hack.
  • Fairy Type Implementation: Introduces the Fairy type from Generation 6, rebalancing Dragon-type dominance and expanding competitive options.
  • Mega Evolution in Battle: Allows eligible Pokémon to Mega Evolve during battle, similar to later-generation mechanics.
  • New Attacks Added: Expands battle strategy with additional moves beyond the original FireRed movepool.
  • 5% Shiny Encounter Rate: Wild Pokémon have a significantly increased shiny rate compared to official games.
  • EV/IV Viewer System: Players can directly monitor stat values for optimization and competitive-style play.
  • PSS-Inspired System: Implements a Player Search System-style feature inspired by modern Pokémon titles to enhance trainer interaction concepts.
  • EXP Gain on Capture: Experience points are awarded for catching Pokémon, not just defeating them.
  • Day/Night Cycle: Time-based events, encounters, and evolutions tied to in-game time.
  • BW-Style Repel System: Prevents random encounters while exploring when conditions are met.
  • Updated Sprites & Overworld Graphics: Modernized Pokémon and trainer sprites for a refreshed visual style.
  • Multi-Region Pokémon Availability: While starting in Kanto, Pokémon inspired by regions like Alola are available early in the game.
