About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Thunder Emblem is a story-driven FireRed ROM hack created by Mitchel1, known for projects like Dark Cry and Gengar’s Revenge. This hack goes far beyond simple enhancements, offering a completely reworked experience with new maps, scripts, and original narrative elements.
Unlike standard improvement hacks, this project introduces a new storyline, custom regions, and unique gameplay systems, while still using FireRed as its base. It blends elements from multiple generations, including Sinnoh Pokémon and characters, and introduces entirely new locations and mechanics like time travel and emblem-based progression.
The hack gained notable recognition in the ROM hacking community, winning multiple Hack of the Month awards and even Hack of the Year (2008), showing its popularity despite being unfinished and somewhat rough around the edges.
Story Overview
After defeating the Elite Four, your character had sworn off Pokémon adventures. However, new Pokémon outside Sinnoh appear, and the three emblems (Fire, Aura, Thunder) awaken the legendary dogs Entei, Suicune, and Raikou. Team Rocket seeks to control them but only finds the Thunder Emblem. Professor Oak enlists your help to retrieve all emblems, stop Team Rocket, and secure Raikou.
Your journey begins with Pikachu, and you will face new Gym Leaders, original maps, and redesigned towns. The story includes traveling back to the past, solving emblem-related quests, and encountering legendary and event Pokémon like Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Celebi, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Manaphy.
