About This ROM Hack

Pokémon TDT – The Darkest Timeline is a FireRed ROM hack that reimagines the entire Kanto journey from the perspective of a Team Rocket grunt, shifting the tone of the game into a much darker and more narrative-driven experience.

Instead of becoming a Pokémon Champion, you are part of Team Rocket’s inner operations, experiencing the world from the “other side” of the Pokémon universe. The hack leans heavily into a gritty, darker tone, while also including pop culture references to series such as Game of Thrones and Parks and Recreation, adding unexpected humor alongside its darker setting.

The game focuses on a full Gen 1 Pokédex experience, keeping all 151 Pokémon obtainable while reshaping progression around Team Rocket’s objectives rather than traditional gym challenges.

Story Overview

You begin as a new recruit in Team Rocket, assigned missions to help the organization’s agenda. Starting in a different city with new starter Pokémon, you experience a fully new storyline that blends classic Pokémon mechanics with a darker narrative tone. Pop culture references are sprinkled throughout, including nods to Game of Thrones and Parks and Recreation, adding humor and commentary to the setting.
