About This ROM Hack

Pokémon SURI is a story-driven Johto-based ROM hack set after Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, continuing the world’s narrative rather than retelling it.

Unlike typical remakes, this hack focuses on a post-HGSS timeline, where familiar characters have evolved into new roles and the world has moved forward. Gold is no longer just a Champion challenger—he now investigates mysteries. Lyra becomes a skilled Pokémon breeder, and Professor Rowan is introduced into Johto’s unfolding Ruins Alpha mystery arc alongside Elm.

A key thematic element of the hack is the connection between Unown and Arceus, which plays a major role in the expanded lore and Pokédex structure.

The project is also heavily focused on mechanical modernization, rebalancing Johto gameplay while keeping its identity intact.

Story Overview

The story takes place in the Johto region after the events of HGSS, where the world has entered a new era of exploration and discovery.

Gold has recently become the Pokémon League Champion, but instead of continuing competitive battling, he now focuses on investigating unexplained phenomena across Johto.

Meanwhile:

  • Lyra has established herself as a respected Pokémon breeder.
  • Professor Elm continues his research into Pokémon evolution and regional changes.
  • Professor Rowan arrives in Johto to assist in uncovering the mystery behind the Ruins Alpha, alongside Gold and Elm.
  • The ancient connection between Unown and Arceus becomes a central mystery thread that ties lore and gameplay progression together.

This is not a retelling of Johto—it is a continuation of its mythos, expanding both characters and worldbuilding beyond HGSS.
