About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Super Mega Emerald is an enhanced version of Pokémon Emerald built around expanding and refining the Mega Evolution system while improving overall gameplay balance across Hoenn.

The hack focuses heavily on battle system upgrades, trainer roster changes, and Mega Evolution mechanics, making encounters significantly more strategic compared to vanilla Emerald.

One of its defining features is the introduction of a dual Mega Evolution system, allowing certain Pokémon with multiple Mega forms (like Charizard or Mewtwo) to switch between transformations using Mega Stones and Anti-Mega Stones.

It also introduces the Fairy type, updated Gym Leader teams, and improved enemy compositions for both Team Magma and Team Aqua, giving the entire Hoenn region a more modern and challenging feel.

While the story remains familiar, the gameplay experience is noticeably different due to the expanded roster and Mega Evolution-focused combat system.

Key Features

  • Mega Evolution Updates: All move sets of Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution are fixed for balanced gameplay.
  • Gym Leader Updates: Many Gym Leaders’ Pokémon have been changed to include Mega Evolutions.
  • Starter Pokémon in the Wild: Johto and Hoenn starters such as Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Totodile, Mudkip, and Treecko can now be caught in the wild. Torchic is recommended as your starter.
  • Teams Magma & Aqua Updates: Both teams now feature Pokémon with Mega Evolutions.
  • Fairy Type Added: Introduces the Fairy type to balance battles and expand strategies.
  • Dual Mega Evolution Mechanic: Pokémon with two Mega forms (e.g., Charizard, Mewtwo) can use Mega Stones twice. Using an Anti-Mega Stone reverts them to their original form.
  • Mega Stone Purchases: Mega Stones and Anti-Mega Stones can be bought at Pokémon League and Lilycove City.
  • Primal & Mega Pokémon: Includes Primal Groudon, Mega Kyogre, and all other Mega Pokémon for a fully enhanced roster.
  • Strategic Enhancements: Players can customize their team using Mega Evolutions for more competitive and challenging gameplay.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • Some dual Mega Evolution mechanics may behave unpredictably if Anti-Mega Stones are not used correctly.
  • Minor sprite clipping may occur during Mega Evolution animations.
  • Certain Gym Leader battle scripts may not display dialogue correctly after Pokémon changes.
  • Occasionally, Mega Evolution effects may flicker depending on the emulator.
