About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Sky Twilight is a feature-packed FireRed ROM hack set in a completely new region with modern-generation mechanics, custom content, and expanded battle systems. The hack blends Gen 4–7 content with original ideas like a brand-new Pokémon type, custom Mega Evolutions, updated battle mechanics, and large graphical upgrades. It aims to deliver a more modern Pokémon experience within the GBA engine while still keeping the classic adventure structure of Gyms, exploration, and battling an evil team.

Story Overview

In the Crocus Region, a rare Pokémon named Noivern has been kidnapped by a group of criminals called Team Voltage. These villains force Pokémon to Mega Evolve in order to steal energy for their schemes.

You start in Begonia Village, a small local town, as a young trainer ready to begin your journey. Your goal is to catch Pokémon, battle trainers, collect Gym Badges, and defeat the Elite Four. Along the way, you uncover mysteries and confront Team Voltage to stop their criminal plans.

Key Features

  • Generation 4–7 Pokémon: Pokémon from multiple modern generations are available, expanding team-building variety far beyond standard FireRed.
  • Generation 4–6 Moves: A wide selection of modern moves such as Flame Charge, Dark Pulse, Aqua Tail, Power Whip, and many others have been added to improve battle depth.
  • Generation 4–6 Abilities: Modern abilities like Big Pecks, Super Luck, Hydration, and more are implemented, giving Pokémon more strategic roles.
  • Generation 4–7 Items: Numerous later-generation items, including evolution items like the Dusk Stone, are obtainable in-game.
  • Decapitalisation System: Text formatting has been modernized by removing the old ALL CAPS style for a cleaner reading experience.
  • Mega Evolution System: Players can Mega Evolve Pokémon in battle, bringing a major competitive mechanic into the GBA engine.
  • Custom Mega Evolutions: Brand-new Mega forms created specifically for this hack add unique designs and battle strategies not found in official games.
  • Experience Gain on Capture: Trainers gain EXP after catching wild Pokémon, speeding up progression and encouraging Pokédex completion.
  • Reusable TMs: TMs do not break after use, allowing flexible moveset experimentation without punishment.
  • Gen 4 Poison Survival Mechanic: Poison will no longer knock a Pokémon out outside battle — instead, it survives at 1 HP and is cured, just like modern games.
  • Updated Critical Hit System: Critical hit mechanics are adjusted to match newer-generation battle calculations.
  • Updated Pokémon Sprites: Pokémon sprites have been improved visually, enhancing battle presentation.
  • Fairy Type Added: The Fairy type from Gen 6 is fully integrated into the type chart.

  • New Tilesets: The overworld visuals are upgraded with new tiles to make the region feel distinct and modern.
  • Tiles from RSE Games: Additional Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald tiles improve environmental variety.
  • Black & White Music: Music from Pokémon BW gives the game a modern audio atmosphere.
