About This ROM Hack
Pokemon Shuckle Version is a unique fan-made GBA ROM hack focused entirely on Shuckle, exploring how one Pokémon species could adapt and evolve in isolation. Set on Shuckle Island, this hack introduces over 50 new Shuckle species with custom designs and types, emphasizing creativity and variety within a single Pokémon line.
Key gameplay enhancements include reusable TMs, running indoors, and a future Berry system. The hack leverages MrDollSteaks’s Decap and Attack Rombase, along with numerous Gen 3 ROM hacking tools for scripting, mapping, and sprite creation. Players can expect a story-driven adventure with deep exploration, Pokémon collection, and custom mechanics designed around Shuckle’s unique traits.
Story Overview
Shuckle Version takes place on Shuckle Island, a remote nature preserve inhabited solely by Shuckle. Over generations, Shuckle have adapted to the island’s various climates, resulting in a diverse set of species. Humans recently returned to the island and prohibited transporting Pokémon to or from it to preserve its unique ecosystem.
You live in Outset Town with your mother and assist Professor Larch, the island’s Pokémon Professor. Larch studies the unique evolutionary patterns of Shuckle and maintains the Shuckle Dex, a specialized Pokédex for cataloging island Shuckle species.
The adventure begins when Larch discovers a lone Pokémon Egg and allows you to care for it until it hatches. Your journey across Shuckle Island involves documenting the Shuckle species, exploring unique environments, and uncovering the mysteries of their long-term evolution.
