About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Secrets and Rumours is a reimagining of Pokémon Red as players remembered it, not as it actually was. Inspired by playground myths, early internet rumors, and long-debunked secrets from the late 1990s, this hack recreates the legendary false memories surrounding the original Pokémon games and turns them into real, playable content.

Rather than acting as a straightforward remake, the game presents a familiar Kanto experience twisted by misinformation, altered events, and long-believed rumors—creating a nostalgic yet unpredictable adventure.

Story Overview

The game takes place in Kanto, three years before the events of Pokémon Gold and Silver. While this timeline mirrors the original Red/Blue setting, Pokémon Secrets and Rumours diverges heavily in execution.

You relive the Kanto journey as if every rumor you once believed were true. From whispered secrets like Pikablu to hidden towns and impossible events, the world unfolds the way players pretended it worked back in the early days of Pokémon.

Although the structure resembles the classic Red storyline, nearly every event has been rewritten, ensuring that even veteran players are constantly surprised—often before they even leave Pallet Town.

Key Features

  • Rumor-Based World Design: Famous myths such as Pikablu, secret towns, and hidden events are fully implemented as real gameplay mechanics.
  • Re-Scripted Story Events: Every major event in Kanto has been rewritten from scratch, offering a fresh experience despite the familiar setting.

  • Reworked TM and HM System: TMs and HMs function similarly to RBY but with a redesigned move list.
  • Classic Gym Leaders Preserved: The original Kanto Gym Leaders return to maintain authenticity.
