About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Red Frost is a story-driven FireRed hack with a strong dark fantasy tone, centered around a frozen kingdom and a mysterious force reshaping the world.
The hack leans heavily into narrative atmosphere rather than pure gameplay overhaul. It introduces a new frozen setting, new characters, and a more cinematic sense of progression while still keeping FireRed as its mechanical base.
The defining element is its villain—Red Frost, a lich-like ruler whose ambition is to freeze the entire world under eternal winter. The player is pulled into this world unexpectedly, starting their journey trapped in a snow-covered land with no clear way home.
Story Overview
Long ago, the ruler of an ice kingdom feared the slow fading of his realm. Searching for a way to preserve it forever, the King studied ancient tomes in his personal library and discovered that ice could preserve all things within its frozen grasp. Obsessed with this power, he continued his research until he uncovered forbidden knowledge: a ritual that would allow him to become a lich.
After performing the ritual, the King abandoned his former identity and took on a new name—Red Frost. With his newfound power, he encased his kingdom in ice. Unsatisfied with ruling only one frozen land, Red Frost set his sights on covering the entire world in eternal winter.
You play as the hero or heroine on the day your Pokémon journey is meant to begin. Before you can even leave your home, reality shifts. A mysterious voice calls you outside, where a Pokémon appears and explains why you have been brought to this frozen land. Moments later, the Pokémon vanishes, leaving you trapped in a snow-covered region.
Your only hope of escape—and of stopping Red Frost—is to seek out the region’s Professor and uncover the truth behind the eternal winter.
