About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Radish & Celery is a passion-driven FireRed ROM hack built around one simple idea: what if Pokémon never stopped at 151—but instead gave us an entirely new generation of 151 Fakémon with a completely fresh world?
This project is not trying to polish every system or recreate Kanto with tweaks. Instead, it builds a new universe from the ground up, with custom creatures, unusual towns, and a slightly chaotic tone that leans into humor and experimentation.
The creator openly states they are not a deep technical hacker, but more focused on shaping a new Pokémon experience full of personality, weirdness, and creativity. That approach is noticeable throughout the hack, especially in its writing style and world design.
The current build is still early, with only part of the game playable, but it already establishes its identity through its Fakémon roster and unconventional progression system.
Story Overview
You play as a talkative young boy or girl living in a region defined by vegetable-inspired cities. Unlike traditional Pokémon protagonists, your character is outspoken and often sarcastic, giving the game a more humorous and self-aware tone.
Your rival is not an arrogant antagonist but rather an annoyingly friendly neighbor who enjoys battling you casually, much to your character’s irritation. As your journey unfolds, you discover that earning Gym Badges is far from straightforward. Instead of traditional Gyms, you often have to infiltrate ordinary buildings and battle everyday people to obtain them.
For example, the first Gym is an office building under renovation, where you fight office workers rather than Gym Trainers before reaching a box containing newly made badges. This unconventional approach reinforces the hack’s quirky identity.
The region is populated by eccentric and unpredictable characters—some harmlessly odd, others outright unhinged—standing in sharp contrast to the relatively bland NPCs of FireRed. The developer aims to maintain this unusual tone throughout the game, delivering a fresh experience with humor, personality, and surprising situations.
After defeating the Champion, the main story is planned to conclude, with potential post-game mini-stories and rare Fakémon hunts intended for completion-focused players.
