About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Polka Aqua is a large-scale, story-driven ROM hack that blends the Pokémon universe with characters from numerous television series and films. Rather than focusing purely on mechanical upgrades, this hack builds an ambitious crossover narrative where superheroes, detectives, magical figures, and fictional personalities coexist inside the Pokémon world.

The adventure begins with rescuing Professor Palm and quickly expands into a globe-spanning mystery involving Hydra, alternate universes, parallel dimensions, and the secrets of Pokémon evolution. Azurill plays a surprisingly central role in the overarching narrative, giving the game a thematic anchor beneath its crossover spectacle.

Version 1.38 includes both a full edition with significant stat and move buffs, as well as a Lite Version that retains most features but avoids major base stat and move power changes.

Story Overview

Your journey begins in Newtown, where you meet your rival, May or Brendan. You rescue Professor Palm and receive your first Pokémon from Professor Beech’s lab. From there, the story quickly escalates beyond a typical Gym challenge.

As you travel through cities based on real-world locations like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and Washington DC, you meet characters inspired by various TV shows and movies. You help S.H.I.E.L.D. agents investigate corporate plots at Luthor Corp, uncover supernatural threats in Sunnydale, explore Hogwarts, and even travel between parallel universes.

The story includes Hydra invasions, multiverse breaches, ancient tombs, and magical artifacts, leading to Azurill Isle, where a deeper mystery about evolution and power unfolds.

After defeating the Pokémon League, the story continues with a large post-game arc featuring parallel universes, S.T.A.R. Labs, the Enchanted Forest, and a final disaster linked back to Azurill Isle. This is more than just a Gym-to-League journey; it’s a connected cinematic saga.
