About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Orange GBA is a FireRed-based remake of the Orange Islands concept, originally inspired by Pokémon Orange. The project aims to recreate the Orange Archipelago experience in a GBA format while also expanding and reworking elements of the original idea.

At its core, the hack is designed to be a full Orange Islands adventure, combining exploration, island-hopping progression, and a more structured regional experience built in “Game Freak-style” design.

While it originally aimed for a faithful remake, the project evolved over time, introducing changes to plot structure, character designs, region layout, and balancing, making it more of a reinterpretation than a strict recreation.

The result is a modernized Orange Islands experience that still keeps the spirit of the original concept but expands it into a more complete ROM hack framework.

Story Overview

Set six months after Red’s victory over the Indigo League, the story follows a young trainer inspired by Red’s legendary achievement. Choosing between Tyson or Doris, you begin your journey in the Orange Archipelago with dreams of becoming a Pokémon Master.

Your adventure revolves around challenging the Orange Crew, exploring a chain of tropical islands, and delivering the mysterious GS Ball to the well-known Professor Samson Oak, who is visiting the region. Along the way, you’ll encounter unique island variants, uncover regional secrets, and face both lighthearted and difficult moments that shape your journey through the Orange Islands.
