About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Nidokingdom is a first-time ROM hacking project built around experimentation with mapping, scripting, and storytelling. The hack focuses less on polished mechanics and more on creating a strange alternate version of Kanto where familiar places are transformed and rule structures are changed.
The project reflects an early learning stage, where feedback on maps, story flow, and scripting quality is a core part of development direction.
The world design leans into a surreal tone, with familiar towns altered or destroyed, and progression tied more to exploration than traditional Gym badge progression.
Story Overview
You begin as an ordinary kid from Pallet Town, but everything changes when you wake up one morning with no memory of who you are. Even more disturbing, your mother has been transformed into a male Nidoran.
Stepping outside, you discover that Pallet Town no longer exists. In its place lies a vast field of flowers, broken only by a small cave. Inside, you find a ransacked room and a single Poké Ball containing an abandoned Corpfish—your first and only companion.
As you travel onward, the devastation continues. Viridian City is in ruins, its destruction more recent than Pallet’s, as buildings still leave visible remains. When you finally reach Pewter City, civilization appears to persist—but something is clearly wrong.
The mystery of what happened to Kanto, why the world is ruled by Nidos, and how reality itself has shifted forms the core of the narrative.
