About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Moon Emerald is a Pokémon Emerald ROM hack that reimagines the Hoenn region by integrating Generation 7 Pokémon, Alola Forms, and modern gameplay mechanics into the classic GBA structure.

Unlike story overhaul hacks, this version keeps the original Emerald narrative intact while heavily modernizing the Pokémon ecosystem and battle system. The result is a familiar Hoenn journey that feels significantly updated due to the presence of newer-generation Pokémon and mechanics.

The main focus is on letting players experience a full Gen 7-style Pokémon roster inside the traditional Emerald world, blending old and new generations into a single unified experience.

Key Features

  • Alola Starters: Litten, Rowlet, and Popplio replace the traditional starters, while all three remain obtainable during the adventure.
  • Generation 7 Pokémon Integration: All Generation 7 Pokémon are implemented with proper stats, moves, abilities, and official data.
  • Alola Forms: Every Alola Form is included and obtainable within the game.
  • Mixed National Pokédex: Pokémon from Generations 1 through 7 appear throughout Hoenn, though not every species from earlier generations is included.
  • Fossil Pokémon Changes: Amaura and Tyrunt replace the Root and Claw Fossils and can be revived accordingly.
  • Legendary Pokémon Replacement: Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza are replaced by Lunala, Solgaleo, and Magearna.
  • Fairy Type Implementation: The Fairy type is fully added, including type effectiveness and movepools.
  • Updated Move Sets: New moves are added up to Generation 5, along with select Generation 7 moves.
  • Physical and Special Split: Moves are categorized by physical or special damage rather than type, following modern mechanics.
  • Evolutionary Stone Shops: Evolution stones are purchasable in Mauville City and Lilycove City.
  • Mega Evolution System: Mega Evolution is available by evolving Pokémon using Mega Stones purchased in Lilycove City.
  • Trade Evolution Replacement: Pokémon that normally evolve via trade now evolve using the Cable Link item, available in Lilycove City.
  • All Eeveelutions: Every evolution of Eevee is obtainable within the game.
  • Gym Leader and Elite Four Updates: Gym Leaders use updated Pokémon teams, and from the fifth gym onward, all Gym Leaders have six Pokémon. The Elite Four feature Mega Evolutions and adjusted difficulty.

  • Day and Night System: A time-based system affects gameplay and encounters.
  • TM and Level-Up Adjustments: Some Pokémon learn moves normally obtained via TMs or Egg Moves by leveling up.
