About This ROM Hack
Pokémon MasterQuest is a collaborative ROM hack project created by a small team of developers aiming to reimagine the Kanto region through a more narrative-driven and choice-based structure. Unlike standard FireRed hacks that focus primarily on gameplay expansion, MasterQuest emphasizes story progression, dialogue, and player-driven decisions.
The hack takes strong inspiration from the Pokémon anime while also introducing original plot elements to deepen the experience. It reinterprets familiar Kanto events through a more cinematic and interactive lens, where player choices influence how certain story elements unfold.
The project is still in beta form, with the most recent update (Beta 2) extending gameplay up to Celadon City with all major events in that section completed.
Story Overview
Set once again in the iconic Kanto region, Pokémon MasterQuest places the player in a world shaped not only by Gym Battles, but by choices and consequences. Drawing heavy inspiration from the Pokémon anime, the game blends recognizable characters and scenarios with new story elements created exclusively for the hack.
Throughout your journey, you will travel alongside characters such as Eve Green, Bonnie Amarillo, and Alan Rouge, encountering both familiar rivals and entirely new faces. Your decisions—whether heroic or morally questionable—can influence how events unfold, altering dialogue, relationships, and story outcomes.
The ultimate goal remains becoming a Pokémon Master, but how you achieve that goal—and who stands with you by the end—depends entirely on the choices you make.
