About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Mars was a FireRed ROM hack concept that combined traditional Pokémon gameplay with a sci-fi space exploration setting. The project was ultimately scrapped, but an early demo build was released that showcased its core ideas.

The hack reimagined Pokémon as part of an interplanetary narrative, where the player travels from Earth to Mars aboard a space shuttle constructed by Professor Oak. The concept attempted to blend classic Kanto elements with futuristic and extraterrestrial storytelling.

Although development never reached completion, the demo introduced the core premise of alien Pokémon variants, a Martian society, and a political conflict unfolding on Mars.

Story Overview

Red, now an experienced teenage trainer, has already defeated the Elite Four three times. When Professor Oak approaches him about a mysterious new project, Red agrees without knowing the full scope of the mission.

Soon after, Red and a partner board a space shuttle built by Professor Oak himself, traveling to Mars. Upon arrival, Red becomes entangled in a Martian general election, where one of the candidates—Fortitudo—appears charismatic on the surface but hides deep corruption beneath.

As an outsider from Earth, Red must uncover Fortitudo’s secrets while navigating alien politics, disguised extraterrestrials, and skepticism from Martian citizens who see him as nothing more than an “earthling.” The story raises questions about trust, power, and whether an outsider can truly change another world.
