About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Mario Mon is a crossover-themed Pokémon GBA ROM hack that replaces the traditional Pokémon universe with characters from the Mario franchise, along with a surprise appearance from Mega Man. Built on Pokémon FireRed, this hack reimagines the entire Pokédex, movesets, typings, and evolution lines to fit the Mushroom Kingdom setting.

Rather than simply reskinning Pokémon, Pokémon Mario Mon adjusts gameplay mechanics to ensure balance between characters, removes unnecessary tutorials, and modifies progression to better suit exploration. The result is a unique and creative ROM hack that blends Pokémon mechanics with Mario lore.

Story Overview

In the Mushroom Kingdom, Professor E-Gadd develops a revolutionary—and sinister—technology capable of enslaving the monsters that inhabit the land. Marketed by Mario as a solution to Bowser’s endless invasions, the technology promises everlasting peace by brainwashing the kingdom’s enemies.

However, the monsters themselves are thrown into chaos as more of Bowser’s loyal minions are captured and enslaved. Witnessing this injustice, Bowser storms E-Gadd’s laboratory to rescue his followers, only to be stopped by Mario at the last moment.

To add insult to injury, Mario defeats Bowser using one of Bowser’s own brainwashed minions. Horrified, Bowser retreats into hiding, determined to find a way to undo E-Gadd’s technology and free the trapped souls of his army.

The player follows Mario’s journey as he attempts to stop what he believes to be Bowser’s evil schemes, all while unknowingly enforcing a much darker form of control over the Mushroom Kingdom.
