About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Light Version is an ambitious Pokémon FireRed ROM hack that represents the third major rebuild of the project. The developer chose to restart development multiple times to improve organization, code quality, flow, and overall polish as their hacking skills progressed. While maintaining the original core storyline and ideas, each rebuild introduces refined mechanics, deeper systems, and more complex gameplay structures. The goal of Pokémon Light Version is to deliver a long, content-rich Pokémon experience that breaks away from traditional linear progression.

Story Overview

The player begins their journey in Beacon City, a town where Pokémon battles and research are part of everyday life. Your father is the local Gym Leader, and your closest friend is the son of the world-renowned Professor Layton. As a result, both of you are well-known and respected in your hometown.

Each year, Professor Layton hosts an annual Pokémon competition, and you and your friend decide to participate. After witnessing rare and exotic Pokémon during the event, the two of you are inspired to leave Beacon City and explore the wider world under a research grant.

However, the journey quickly takes a darker turn. A corrupt political party is secretly conducting horrific experiments on Pokémon. Professor Layton, who also works as a detective, joins you to uncover the truth behind these crimes. To reach the top and expose the villains, you and your friend enroll in the Pokémon Elite Challenge—battling all eight Gym Leaders while simultaneously navigating fame, politics, and even pop-star status. The story blends mystery, investigation, and traditional Pokémon progression into a unique narrative experience.
