About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Light Version is a FireRed ROM hack that focuses heavily on storytelling, non-linear progression, and custom gameplay systems. Built on Pokémon FireRed, the project has gone through multiple restarts as the developer improved their skills, aiming to deliver a more polished and organized experience.
Unlike traditional Pokémon hacks, this game emphasizes a free-lance style progression, where players don’t simply move from town to town in a straight line. Instead, you revisit locations, trigger events across different areas, and engage with a world that evolves as you progress.
The hack also introduces a wide range of custom mechanics, including communication systems, side quests, and interactive features that expand gameplay beyond standard Pokémon formulas.
Story Overview
You live in Beacon City, where your father is the Gym Leader, making you and your best friend—son of the world-renowned Professor—well known in the area. Life is enjoyable but predictable, centered around the annual Pokémon competition hosted by Professor Layton.
After participating in the competition and witnessing a variety of Pokémon, you and your friend decide to leave home and explore the world under a research grant. However, your journey quickly becomes more serious as you uncover a corrupt political party conducting horrific experiments on Pokémon.
Professor Layton, who also works as a detective, joins you in uncovering the truth behind these events. As you pursue this mystery, you also take part in the Pokémon Elite Challenge, battling through eight gyms while balancing your rise to fame and uncovering the villains’ plans.
