About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Legacy is a FireRed-based ROM hack developed by fanp as their first major project. It reimagines the Kanto region with a new storyline, expanded Pokémon roster, and several gameplay enhancements designed to modernize and differentiate the experience.

The hack takes place in a future version of Kanto, introducing changes to the region, characters, and overall structure. While it retains familiar locations, many elements have been altered—such as Gym Leaders, mechanics, and progression systems.

One of the more ambitious aspects of Pokémon Legacy is its attempt to blend classic Pokémon gameplay with new systems like bounty hunting and time-based storytelling. It also incorporates Pokémon from later generations, along with visual and mechanical improvements inspired by newer games.

Although still in beta, the project shows strong variety in features and ideas, even if some parts remain unfinished or rough around the edges.

Story Overview

You begin your journey as a 16-year-old trainer in Viridian City. After receiving your first Pokémon from Professor Oak, you discover that the fate of Kanto rests in your hands. Over the years, Kanto has changed: Pallet Town has grown in fame thanks to Red and Blue, and Oak has retired, with Blue taking his place as Professor.

The central plot revolves around Mr. Time, a mysterious villain with the ability to control time. You cannot stop him alone; along your adventure, you must form a team, explore the reimagined Kanto, and complete side quests to gather allies. Along the way, players will face Gym Leaders, new challenges, and uncover secrets hidden throughout the region.
