About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Kanto Black reimagines Kanto and the Sevii Islands with Pokémon from Generations V and VI, offering a fresh gameplay experience while retaining the original maps. The hack adds strategic depth, numerous move tutors, difficulty scaling, and side content such as mini-games and battle facilities.
The core concept of Kanto Black is “What if Kanto had Unova and Kalos Pokémon?” With mostly unchanged towns and routes, the hack introduces a variety of new Pokémon and movesets that enhance strategy without nerfing existing options. Sevii Islands are expanded with 6th generation Pokémon, and players can access them earlier than in vanilla FireRed.
Battle facilities, mini-games, and additional sidequests provide more gameplay variety. The hack also introduces a difficulty rating system for bosses and incorporates Gen V & VI mechanics like abilities, physical/special split, and new moves.
Key Features
- Generation V & VI Pokémon: Only Eevee from older generations is included; all other Pokémon are from Generations V (Kanto) and VI (Sevii Islands).
- Move Tutor Abundance: More move tutor options than TMs, opening up new strategic possibilities for previously underused Pokémon.
- Difficulty Rating System: Settings for EVs and boss strategies determine difficulty, currently focused on Gym Leaders and main bosses.
- Sevii Islands Expansion: Players can visit all Sevii Islands post-Lt. Surge, encountering 6th generation Pokémon and new battle facilities.
- Mini-Games: Play on Two Island to gain rare items or EV train efficiently.
- Instant VS Seeker: VS Seeker charges instantly, eliminating the need for walking steps to initiate rematches.
- Enhanced Mechanics: Includes physical/special move split, new abilities, battle items, and updated battle mechanics for modern Pokémon.
- Battle Facilities: Celadon Mansion and Seven Island host facilities allowing competitive-style battles with high BST Pokémon, including formerly banned Pokémon like Genesect, Keldeo, Meloetta, and Victini.
- Expanded Stone Merchants & Special Items: Trade Stones, evolutionary stones, and special event items like the Reveal Glass are added.
