About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Kalos Crystal is a re-imagining of Generation 2, designed as a sequel to Unova Red. It uses the Pokecrystal disassembly, a popular tool for hacking GBC ROMs, to bring Gen 5 and 6 Pokémon into the classic Gen 2 framework. With a custom Pokédex featuring Pokémon from Victini through Volcanion, players can catch and evolve all Pokémon within a single playthrough. The hack introduces multiple changes, including Fairy-type Pokémon, updated movesets, and revised evolutions, all while maintaining the nostalgic feel of the original Pokémon Crystal.

Story Overview

Pokémon Kalos Crystal takes place in the Johto region but features a new twist on the Pokémon available to players. This hack combines the Unova and Kalos regions by incorporating Pokémon from Generations 5 and 6. As a sequel to Unova Red, it maintains many of the same concepts while expanding the world to include the Kalos Pokedex.

The player begins their journey in the familiar Johto setting but encounters a broader range of Pokémon. New evolutions and mechanics are introduced, such as the addition of the Fairy type, new TMs, and custom evolutions that make progressing through the game more rewarding. The final rival battle is a one-time event, and the Elite Four become progressively stronger as players collect more Kanto Gym Badges.

Key Features

  • Custom Pokédex: Includes Gen 5 and 6 Pokémon (from Victini to Volcanion), allowing players to catch and battle across multiple generations in a single playthrough.
