About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Fool's Gold is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokémon Crystal that completely reimagines the Pokémon experience. Every Pokémon has been redesigned, often inspired by regional forms from later generations, with new types, movesets, and evolutions. Trainers, wild encounters, and in-game environments have all been adapted to match these changes. Beyond gameplay, aesthetic improvements, optional exploration areas, and enhanced shiny rates make the experience fresh while keeping the classic Crystal storyline intact.

This project began in early 2019 as a side project for a group of Pokémon fans without formal programming experience. Despite that, the team created a fully playable and polished experience, showcasing both creativity and dedication.

Story Overview

Players will encounter over 250 Pokémon with new forms and movesets, find new areas hidden in Johto and Kanto, and eventually explore the Sevii Islands as an extra postgame region. The storyline maintains nostalgia for classic fans while offering surprises through unique Pokémon designs, modified trainer teams, and fresh wild encounters.
