About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Flame of Rage is a fan‑made GBA ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed, developed by X‑Buster. It features a complete overhaul of the base FireRed experience by introducing a brand‑new region (Ryouhi), custom characters, plots, maps, and quests. The hack’s story centers on the fragile balance of the Ryouhi Region after the preserver of peace falls, causing chaos and conflict among three powerful fire Pokémon that vie for control of the region. Your mission is to restore peace and stability by confronting this imminent threat.

Flame of Rage offers a fresh take on Pokémon gameplay, departing from Kanto and deep into a narrative designed around original storyline elements, trainers, and encounters added to the FireRed engine.

Story Overview

In the Ryouhi Region, peace was maintained by an ancient protector whose influence safeguarded the land. But that balance has collapsed, plunging Ryouhi into turmoil. Three mighty fire‑type Pokémon now battle for dominance, and only a skilled trainer can intervene and quell the ensuing chaos. Your journey will involve exploring Ryouhi’s towns and wilds, facing new rivals and gym leaders, confronting nefarious organizations, and ultimately stopping the destructive force tearing the region apart.

Unlike standard FireRed hacks that only tweak encounters or difficulty, Flame of Rage introduces an entirely new region, overworld areas, characters, trainers, and quests, distinguishing its narrative from the vanilla storyline.

Key Features

  • New Region — Ryouhi: A fully original region with its own locations and lore.
  • Custom Hero/Heroine: Unique protagonist sprite and character introduction.
  • New Starters: Custom starter Pokémon unique to this hack.
  • New Rivals & Organization: Encounters with original rivals and a new antagonist organization.
  • Expanded Maps & Tilesets: Completely new maps and graphical tiles to represent the Ryouhi Region.
  • New Quest Structure: Side quests and main story events that augment standard Pokémon progression.
  • Well‑Known Gym Leaders Reimagined: Familiar type leaders with new placements and teams.
  • Original Scripts: Dialogue and narrative scripting crafted specifically for this ROM hack.
  • Standalone Experience: Designed as a full new game rather than minor modifications on FireRed’s story.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • Given its age and community nature, Flame of Rage may exhibit typical ROM hack issues such as occasional scripting errors, mismatched sprites in certain areas, or minor event triggers that do not fire correctly — these are common in older FireRed hacks and often emulator‑dependent. (User experiences vary; no official bug list is widely documented.)
  • Because the hack was released in 2009, some features (like custom areas or scripted events) might behave unpredictably on modern emulators depending on save type settings.
