About This ROM Hack
Pokéluv FireRed is a deep mechanical rebalance project built on Pokémon FireRed that rethinks how every Pokémon functions in battle.
Instead of buffing only weak Pokémon or adding new forms, the creator took a much broader approach: every single Pokémon in the game (including pre-evolutions) is redesigned from the ground up.
That means even Pokémon like Charmander, Oddish, or Hoppip are no longer just early-game stepping stones. They are designed as fully usable team members with their own strengths, identity, and purpose.
The philosophy behind this hack is not “make everything equal,” but rather:
“Give every Pokémon a reason to exist on your team.”
On top of that, Pokéluv FireRed integrates a modified Reasonable Randomizer system, which reshapes enemy teams in a structured way instead of pure chaos. Gym Leaders still feel like Gym Leaders, but their team building becomes more competitive and unpredictable.
The result is a FireRed experience that feels closer to a competitive sandbox RPG than a traditional Pokémon playthrough.
Key Features
- Complete Pokémon Rebalance: All 386 Pokémon have redesigned stats, abilities, and movesets to ensure every species has a viable role.
- Pre-Evolution Viability: Unevolved Pokémon are intentionally balanced to function as long-term team members rather than weak placeholders.
- Rare Candy Evolution System: All level-up and trade evolutions are replaced with optional evolution via Rare Candy, allowing full control over team composition.
- Alternative Stone Evolutions: Eevee, Tyrogue, and Wurmple evolve using Sun Stones and Moon Stones, obtainable through normal gameplay.
- Move Rebalancing: Numerous moves have been adjusted for better balance and consistency across battles.
- Legendary Boss Battles: Legendary Pokémon receive major stat and moveset buffs and are no longer catchable, serving as challenging boss encounters.
- Improved Battle Design: Includes more double battles, smarter AI, and better-balanced trainer teams.
- Physical/Special/Status Split: Full split implemented with visual icons for clarity.
- Quality-of-Life Enhancements: National Dex available from the start, updated critical hit mechanics, poison survival at 1 HP, and improved catch rates.
- Type & Mechanics Adjustments: Steel no longer resists Ghost-type moves, modernized mechanics inspired by later generations.
- Battle Facility Improvements: Revamped Battle Tent and Battle Frontier sets adapted to the new balance system.
Known Bugs & Issues
- No major game-breaking bugs are currently reported. Due to the extensive mechanical changes, rare balance inconsistencies may occur, but the hack is considered stable and complete.
