About This ROM Hack

Pokéluv Emerald is a comprehensive rebalancing hack created by Akiak, developed over several years with a clear design philosophy: every Pokémon should be usable. Unlike difficulty hacks or story-driven hacks, Pokéluv focuses on mechanical depth, balance, and replayability.

All 386 Pokémon, including pre-evolutions, have been fully redesigned with new stats, abilities, and movesets. Each Pokémon is treated as a unique entity rather than a stepping stone to its evolution, meaning unevolved Pokémon like Charmander, Oddish, or Hoppip can viably lead a team throughout the entire game.

This hack is designed for players who enjoy strategy, experimentation, Nuzlockes, and randomized play, while still remaining faithful to the Generation III engine and feel.

Story Overview

Pokéluv Emerald does not introduce a new storyline. Instead, it preserves the original Pokémon Emerald narrative, Gym progression, and regions, while significantly enhancing battles, team composition, and mechanical balance.

The focus is not on story changes, but on how the journey is played, with stronger Gym Leaders, improved AI, and redesigned Pokémon making every encounter more meaningful.

Key Features

Complete Pokémon Rebalance: All 386 Pokémon, including pre-evolutions, have reworked stats, abilities, and movesets to ensure viability without breaking realism.

Pre-Evolution Viability: Unevolved Pokémon are designed as fully usable team members with unique strengths rather than weaker versions of their evolutions.

Optional Rare Candy Evolutions: Level-up and trade evolutions are replaced with optional evolution using Rare Candy, while stone evolutions remain unchanged.

Move Rebalancing: A large number of moves have been reworked for better balance and competitive viability.

New Moves Added: Includes 9 new moves such as Poison Jab and Shadow Claw.

Legendary Boss Battles: Legendary Pokémon are significantly buffed and made uncatchable, functioning as powerful boss encounters.

Reasonable Randomizer Integration: A custom version of Reasonable Randomizer preserves trainer themes and habitats while using competitive movesets for all Pokémon.

Gen 5 Scaled EXP System: Experience gain scales with level, reducing grinding and overleveling.

Optional Gen 6 EXP Share: Available from the start, granting full EXP to the entire party.

Improved Trainer Battles: Gym Leaders have stronger teams, improved AI, and better team composition.

Physical/Special Split: Applied selectively to moves for improved balance.

HM-Free Progression: HMs no longer need to be taught to Pokémon.

Nuzlocke-Friendly Design: Increased catch rates, reduced critical hit damage (1.5x), and quality-of-life adjustments.

Ability & Type Changes: Updates to abilities like Sturdy and Rough Skin, Steel no longer resists Ghost, and poison no longer KOs at 1 HP.

Advanced EXP Control: Early Lucky Eggs can disable EXP gain, useful for strict level caps.

Battle Frontier Improvements: Revamped Battle Tent and Battle Frontier sets in Emerald.

Known Bugs & Issues

No major game-breaking bugs are reported. Due to the scale of mechanical changes and optional randomization, rare edge-case inconsistencies may occur, especially when using the Randomizer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pokéluv Emerald a difficulty hack?
Not strictly. While Gym Leaders and trainers are stronger, the goal is strategic balance, not unfair difficulty spikes.

Can I use unevolved Pokémon for the entire game?
Yes. All pre-evolutions are intentionally designed to be viable long-term options.

Is the Randomizer required?
Technically no, but the developer strongly recommends it, as the hack is balanced around its competitive team-building logic.

Are Legendary Pokémon catchable?
No. Legendary Pokémon act as boss fights and cannot be captured.

Is this hack good for Nuzlockes?
Yes. Many mechanics were adjusted specifically to reduce frustration while maintaining challenge.
